From Scrabble to Happily Ever After

How it all started…

May 22, 1982 was a happy Saturday. That’s the day Jackie and JR were both born and brought into this world to run amok! (More so JR than Jackie) Little did these two know that their paths would cross 2.5 decades later.

Jackie was very fortunate enough to meet JR through her good friend/co-worker Brian, who by chance happens to be one of JR’s closest cousins and roommate at the time. The two met way back sometime in 2008 at an old dive bar called the Crosby. Chemistry was there and sparks flew but timing just wasn’t on their side. Drinks were shared as well as several good laughs but by the end of the night the two said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.

Fast forward 6 years later. The stars align and fate decides it’s game time!

Grandpa and Grandma Quiambao’s home in Artesia is where all the magic happened for these two. Countless hours of flip cup, singing off key to 90’s slow jams and cracking jokes back and forth is all it took to get the JJ train going. It’s been going full speed ever since and the two couldn’t be happier.

The Proposal…

JR proposed to Jackie on July 4, 2016 at Huntington Beach. JR spent the night before camping in a tent with his good friend CK trying to save a bonfire pit and planning out the day. The weather on that Monday morning was perfect! Clear skies, warm breeze… the works. After getting off a long 12 hour shift, Jackie got ready and hit the road with her buddy Eli to meet the rest of the gang.

The party was in full swing. The kids were catching some waves, the fellas playing some football and everyone else relaxing and enjoying the sun. While Jackie was busy having some Snapchat fun, JR calls out to her asking if she wants to play Scrabble. Although it is their favorite game to play at home, who the heck plays scrabble at the beach?!

Jackie is quick to decline but everyone joins in on the request, as well as JR’s mom…so how could she say no? Jackie joins the group and takes her place on the other side of the board and JR decides to throw scrabble tiles her way.

She notices everyone around her closing in on them then glances at the sandy Scrabble board in front of her. Right in front of her, within the mess of tiles and sand, she reads “Will you marry me?”

JR expresses his undying love for her and asks for her hand in marriage, Jackie is filled with all kinds of emotions and blurts out the one thing she’s been waiting to tell the man of her dreams….

DUH!

She weeps like a little girl and the crowd goes wild!
